February 14, 2024 | News

Sunsail and The Moorings achieve record results and expands fleet in 2024.

[Nice, France] - Our "Yachts" division at Travelopia, a major leader in the yachting industry with the Sunsail, The Moorings and Leopard Catamarans brands, is delighted to announce a series of successes and milestones as we continue to make our mark in the world of yacht charter, yacht ownership and yacht sales. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, innovative business strategies and a passion for the sea, we are proud to share our tremendous success and look forward to a bright future.

Sunsail and The Moorings are investing significantly in their fleet with the acquisition of 160 boats in 2024.

By 2024, Sunsail and The Moorings will have an impressive fleet of 750 premium yachts. Demonstrating our commitment to expanding our offering, we have undertaken a significant investment in our fleet with the acquisition of 160 boats throughout the 2024 calendar year. This vast acquisition includes 50 monohulls under a new exclusive partnership with Dufour and no fewer than 110 catamarans from the Robertson & Caine shipyard, representing a total purchase value of more than 100 million dollars (USD). This resounding investment underlines our determination to offer our customers as many exceptional experiences as possible, and consolidates our position as world leader in the yachting sector.

Financial growth and outstanding results from the boat sales department

Our financial results demonstrate our commitment to excellence. In the last financial year, which ended on 30 September 2023, we achieved record results in our various business areas, with total sales of €315 million. Our Moorings and Sunsail yacht ownership/leasing revenues surged and, combined with the exponential growth of our exclusive Leopard catamaran distribution, our total yacht sales revenue increased by 60% in three years.

2023 was another exceptional year for our yacht sales business, marking a fifth consecutive record year.

World leader in Yacht Ownership

One of our proudest achievements is that we sell all the boats in our Sunsail/The Moorings fleet through our Yacht Ownership programme, which was created by The Moorings in 1971. We are the undisputed world leader in yacht management and an internationally renowned charter company. We have consistently delivered on our commitments to all our owners by continuing to pay guaranteed income even after Hurricane Irma or during the Covid-19 pandemic. This is a testament to the trust our customers place in us and the quality of the relationship we have with our owners under the Yacht Ownership programme.

At Sunsail and The Moorings, we are proud of our unwavering commitment to providing unrivalled experiences and opportunities in the world of cruising. We look forward to continuing our journey, sailing to new horizons and challenging ourselves in the years to come. Our commitment to innovation, customer satisfaction and our unconditional passion for the sea will remain our strong guiding principles.

Learn of 6 good reasons to buy a Moorings 403 Powercat

November 3, 2023 | News

Welcome aboard the Moorings 403PC, a power catamaran that redefines the pleasure of sailing.

Here are six of the good reasons to consider buying this exceptional boat.

  1. Speed and power: The Moorings 403PC has a cruising speed of 15 knots! This means you can get to idyllic anchorages quickly and explore more cruising areas during your owner trips with The Moorings. The Moorings 403PC is powered by twin 320hp Yanmar in-line engines, guaranteeing unrivalled reliability. Yanmar, the world-renowned engine manufacturer, is the choice for all of our 750 boats. Our certified technicians will maintain your engines to the highest standards.

  1. Reduced fuel consumption: Motor catamarans stand out for their fuel efficiency. Thanks to better water penetration and a stepped hull that offers enhanced performance, the Moorings 403PC has minimal fuel consumption. At 15 knots light displacement, each engine consumes just 30 litres per hour, and around 40 litres per hour when the boat is fully loaded.

  1. The owner's cabin of your dreams: the Moorings 403PC, as the last number of its name indicates, is only available in a 3-cabin owner's version. As an owner, you'll enjoy all the space of the starboard hull, with a large bed (as big as the one on its big brother, the Moorings 464PC), a desk, a large wardrobe and, above all, a very large forward head. On the port side, the two additional guest cabins have two large double beds, another head and plenty of light.

  1. The surface area of the flybridge and interior living spaces: This model probably has the largest flybridge in its category. It can comfortably accommodate the entire crew (we even had a press conference with 25 journalists, all seated!). The Moorings 403PC's flybridge features a superb helm station, a large area with a table for eating or enjoying an aperitif, an outside bar with a grill and fridge, and a large aft sundeck. All this is protected by an innovative rigid bimini, which we'll come back to in the next section! It should also be noted that, as with all catamarans, the interior living spaces are much larger than on a yacht with a single hull of equivalent size.

  1. A transition to energy freedom: the new Moorings 403 Powercat draws its DNA from the new range of motor catamarans launched by Leopard Catamarans. This two-hulled motor yacht is a breakthrough compared to previous generations, particularly regarding onboard energy management. Aware of the need to produce ever more energy on board while minimising the use of the generator, the Simonis & Voogd design studio has taken steps to integrate more solar panels onboard this latest model. The feature is hidden at the very top of the structure, with a new rigid bimini mould on the flybridge, which can now accommodate 4 x 400-watt solar panels! By comparison, the Moorings 434PC (the previous entry-level power model from Moorings) offered just 2 x 70 watts, so that's 11 times more in 2023 than in 2013! Does this make it possible to be self-sufficient in energy when moored? The answer is yes, as long as you don't use the air conditioning, which still uses too much energy in the tropics to cool the whole boat. To give you an idea, even with bad weather conditions, we found that in the rain there's enough energy to run the American-style fridge, which isn't bad, is it?

  1. Nomination for 'European Powerboat of the Year': Proof of all the qualities mentioned above, the Moorings 403PC has been nominated for one of the world's most prestigious awards: the 'European Powerboat of the Year'. The jury is made up of a number of European journalists, experts in the field of navigation, from renowned publications such as Boote (Germany), Neptune (France), Nautica y Yates (Spain), Marina CH (Switzerland), Yachtrevue (Austria), Båtmagasinet (Norway), BoatMag (Italy) and Motorboot (Netherlands).

The Moorings 403PC is much more than just a boat, it's the result of years of work between The Moorings, Robertson & Caine and Simonis & Voogd Design. If you're looking for the perfect combination of speed, fuel efficiency, space and comfort, this power catamaran is for you. Embark on an unparalleled adventure and let yourself be seduced by the elegance and performance of the Moorings 403PC.

The Moorings brings new water purifier on board!

February 10, 2023 | News

Thanks to an innovative water purification technology, The Moorings now offers across its global operations drinking water directly from the tap. Staying properly hydrated is a vital need, especially in the tropics. So doing so without having to carry dozens of packs of water and saving our planet the production and recycling of thousands of plastic bottles, deserves special attention!

When we look at the subject of water consumed on board our boats, the figures quickly become remarkable. The amount of water our bodies need varies according to our age, body shape, diet and weather conditions. But in the sunny climate that most of our bases enjoy, the recommendation when provisioning is to allow 1.5 litres of water per day per person. With almost 100,000 guests relying on The Moorings for at least a week's sailing each year, the one million litres of drinking water required is quickly reached. Given that some of you sail for two or three weeks, the one million plastic bottles at stake are inevitably consumed.

We are well aware that getting rid of this pollution will not solve the much more global ecological problem we face. But at The Moorings, we believe that every action counts and that it is the sum of initiatives like these that will, as quickly as possible, significantly reduce our impact on the environment.

MooringsYO-SAIL2-0123

What we are also sure of is that we are saving you dozens of kilograms of lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying at arm's length. And forget about the headache of finding a place for all that volume of water!

The increasing presence of water makers on board our boats, which has made the freshwater resource on board almost limitless, was undoubtedly the spark that allowed this project to see the light of day. The water coming from the osmosis process is in fact perfectly pure, H2O in the strict sense chemically speaking. It does not even contain any trace elements, unlike the mineral waters that can be found in the shops, so if we drank it directly, we would have to ensure that we had an even more varied diet to compensate. But on board our yachts, it is actually fed into the usual freshwater tanks.

We have therefore placed a water purifier between these and an additional tap in the galley. The large refrigerators on our power catamarans are also connected to the water purifier. This is not a simple filter, but a technology developed by General Ecology called "Structured Matrix" which, without chemicals or electricity, eliminates all microbiological risks and chemical contamination, and produces water that is as crystal clear as it is drinkable.

Also, the pressure at the outlet of the sophisticated tap provides a flow rate of 7.6 litres per minute, so no one will have to wait longer than necessary to fill their personal water bottle. Finally, the cartridge installed under the sink has a purification capacity of 8,000 litres, so it will take more than a hundred weeks of sailing before it has to be replaced.

Of the 700 units in our fleet, more than a hundred are already equipped with this water purifier. It represents a real improvement for the comfort of your journeys, while significantly reducing their ecological impact. We are so convinced of this that all new Moorings catamarans are now equipped with it as standard. As we renew our fleet and retrofit the units already available, The Moorings aims to have 100% self-sufficient drinking water offered on our all of our catamarans by 2026.

Owner's adventures: Joseph in the Seychelles

October 14, 2022 | News

Maritime adventures in Seychelles

Thanks to Kiwili, our boat situated and taken care of at the Moorings base in Seychelles, we discovered this archipelago between sky and sea and its inhabitants, whom we immediately fell in love with.

We have been there several times, alone, with friends and with family and each trip, though different, is always a special and unique experience.

Wanting to discover more of the archipelago's hidden treasures, we decided to take a skipper on board. PADA is retired from the Seychelles Navy. His charm and kindness made him an instant friend. His fishing and cooking skills made him a valued member of our crew. And his storytelling skills extended our evenings under the starry Seychelles sky.

Bird Island Drone

From Eden Marina on Mahé, the main island, we headed for Bird Island, 64 nautical miles northeast of Mahé, the furthest north-eastern island of the archipelago, which comprises 115 islands. A small paradise in the middle of the Indian Ocean that is well deserved and can also be discovered under the eye of my drone, a gift from my three boys for my 60th birthday.

One of the advantages of the power catamaran is that it can cruise at 15 or 16 knots and thus allows one to cruise to more distant points and visit more places. The weather was beautiful, the sea calm. We chose to sail part of the way at 7 knots to fish and PADA caught a 6kg yellowfin tuna and a barracuda.

Anse Source dArgent

Between the sashimi, ginger carpaccio, tataki on the grill and PADA's Creole recipe, it was a feast every night. The flybridge with its grill is a real plus in the motor catamaran. It is a very nice space to live and relax during the day while sailing and in the evening under the moonlight.

From Bird Island, we went to St Pierre Island near Praslin, 50 nautical miles away, a magnificent site where we did some scuba diving.

Then we headed to La Digue, only 7 miles away. The "harbour" of La Digue is charming. There is no pontoon to dock at; you go back to the anchor held in place by a hawser at the back. La Digue is our favourite place for land-based cycling trips that reveal one of the most beautiful beaches in the world: Anse Source d'Argent, guarded by granite boulders and coconut trees in the heart of a nature reserve, a turtle sanctuary.

Coucher de soleil La Digue

From La Digue, we returned to Mahé, to Port Launay which is not a port but a pretty bay which shelters a beautiful hotel where we had lunch. While swimming near the boat we were visited by a turtle who stayed with us for a long time.

All these magnificent sites are within reach of KIWILI, our Moorings 434 PC catamaran with motor, which offers us space and living comfort like at home; the sea and freedom in addition... We didn't need to refuel and didn't lack anything with the watermaker and generator.

We had an inspiring and serene week in paradise that we can't get enough of. We are already thinking about our next cruise on the Seychelles waters.

Written by the owner of "KIWILI", Joseph S.

A Lifetime of The Moorings: Jeff Monuszko's Story

February 13, 2022 | News

A Moorings life for me

Once the youngest owner ever to own a charter boat in our fleet, Jeff Monuszko comes from a family who has been sailing with The Moorings for over 20 years. His first charter with The Moorings was at the age of six, and since then he has had a passion for sailing and unbreakable loyalty to The Moorings. Keep reading to learn more about his experience growing up with The Moorings family and his sailing adventures today.

Untitled design (33)

What's his story?

Jeff's first charter with The Moorings was at the ripe age of six in the Abacos, Bahamas. This would make his journey with The Moorings about 24 years long. He was introduced to The Moorings by his parents who had their first adventure with the company in 1987. Jeff's sailing experience and knowledge was courtesy of his parents and sailing school. "I grew up watching my parents on our vacations with The Moorings and also went for a handful of certifications from Offshore Sailing School," says Jeff. Between him and his parents, they have visited many of The Moorings worldwide destinations including BVI, Abaco, Croatia and Belize.

Learn more about his boats

With smart financial decisions and a little bit of luck, Jeff was able to own a yacht with The Moorings at 24. Currently, Jeff owns with our sister company a Sunsail 424 (Lagoon 42) as of May 2020. However, he previously owned a Moorings 42.3 called, 'Luff Out Loud' for 5 years before his contract renewal. "The amount of features and space we have on the Sunsail 424 is hard to beat especially for the price. Coming from a small monohull, it is a whole new world to have a generator, outdoor fridge, water maker, dingy davit, automated windlasses, trampoline, ample storage, additional cabin space, panoramic views, elevated helm, additional weather protection." His current boat is very special to him and his family and named after the first sailboat his parents had together back in their younger days. When asked how long he entails keeping his boat, Jeff says, "I think every charter boat owner thinks about keeping it after the program a few times, and I know many end up doing just that." The worry-free benefits of the ownership program are what keeps him around. In total, he sails about 6-8 weeks each year.

After years of traveling, his favorite destination is the British Virgin Islands (BVI). "The BVI is truly home to me. I feel like I am a visiting whenever I am not in the BVI!" According to Jeff, most of his best lifelong memories have happened around the islands of the BVI, and he has many life-long friendships thanks to the BVI to prove it.

Learning to sail with the best

Jeff grew up as a Moorings' baby and says he has been "spoiled" with chartering with The Moorings since day one. He recalls, "Throughout the years, I have seen many peaks and pits of the experience and the industry, and it has just further reaffirmed my family’s three decades of loyalty to the brand." When asking Jeff if he recommends obtaining sailing knowledge prior purchasing a yacht, he responds, "I cannot imagine chartering without the necessary experience to handle one of these vessels. Lack of knowledge and experience is a sure-fire way to ruin the vacation of a lifetime." Jeff believes people would have a far more enjoyable time if they could take a crewed vacation with The Moorings, hire a Moorings skipper, or just learn how to sail themselves. "Learning to sail has countless benefits. It teaches you about accepting realities, respecting nature, strategy, using whatever you have around you, and quick decisions mixed with careful planning."

Future plans and some advice

Jeff says that if he were to buy private one day, it would be the result of a major life change. He emphasizes that he would only consider his private yacht as his one and only primary residence. However, the depreciation of buying a new vessel is a hard pill for him to swallow. "I think the key would be to find a well-maintained used boat and buy it after the first few years of aggressive depreciation have passed. A phase-out boat from the Moorings Brokerage is a great option. I have seen the work that is performed during the phase-out periods, and they do a great job of making it 'good as new'." For now, the ownership program alleviates just about all of his logistical and financial worries, so he is quite content taking advantage of it!

Check out his YouTube Video in tribute to The Moorings below:

Jeff reflects for one final thought and says, "For the past 30 years, The Moorings has been a part of my family and some of the happiest memories of our lives. As a second-generation sailor, I have continued my parent's legacy, and plan to share the wonders of sailing with generations yet to come."
